Letter of Motivation

Your motivational letter is more than a formal requirement. We indeed would like to know

  • why you want to get your PhD,
  • why you want to get your PhD in Zurich and
  • in what fields of research you are interested in.

The more information you give us, the better we can assess your application. We don't want to turn down a good application only because we do not know why a good candidate wants to get a PhD.

How to apply

Submit your complete dossier by using our online application form between February 15th and April 15th, 2026 for admission and enrollment starting in fall term 2026 (see "Apply Now").

Language of Application

All documents must be written in English or German. If the language of the original document is not English or German, we need a copy of an official translation of the documents.

Acceptance of Applications

start in fall: Feb 15th - Apr 15th
start in spring: Aug 15th - Oct 15th
